I participated in the workshop and the Train the Trainer seminars as both an observer and a participant. I learned about the Uluru statement from the heart and its significance. During these seminars, we listened to stories and shared our stories with our tables which were comprised of different community members. I also participated in different activities to further my understanding and then was taught the different ways of being able to present my own Uluru statement from the heart seminar.
I found it very informative, eye-opening, and empowering. Listening to the stories from the facilitators and the tables was emotional and impactful. The first seminar was great as it gave me an in-depth understanding of the topic, however, the train the trainer workshop I feel like did not prepare me as it was very similar to the workshop prior.
I learned that I didn’t know as much before the seminar and that I have so much more to learn regarding Indigenous Australia, its history, and its people. I learned self-management techniques of taking breaks when the session begins to feel strenuous.
